How it Works
Simply put, oil clings to oil, which is pretty helpful when tackling waterproof makeup, sunscreen and daily dirt.
Oil cleansers attach themselves to excess sebum and the oils in your makeup to lift them off the skin. Allowing either to build up can cause acne, so making sure you remove them properly is essential in preventing blemishes.
Add water into the mix and our soothing face cleansing balm emulsifies, then washes away – taking the day’s dirt with it. Powered by expertly-extracted Grapeseed Oil, our sting-free formula leaves skin feeling soft, nourished and radiant. And just like every other Karmic product, it’s organic, cruelty-free and vegan too.
How to Use
- Scoop a generous amount and warm in palm of hands. Apply to dry skin.
- Use your fingertips to massage into skin with gentle upward and outward circular motions, focusing on areas that need attention (like eye makeup).
- Rinse with water. Wipe off with a clean facecloth.
Works best as step 1 of a double cleanse in the evening. Follow with Pot of Gold.

FAQs
My skin is sensitive. Is this suitable for me?
Absolutely! We designed Clean as a Whistle with sensitive skin in mind.
It contains carefully chosen ingredients help to calm irritation and soothe inflammation. The formula is also fragrance free.
We also recommend trying Ruby Dooby Doo as your second cleanse if you have sensitive skin.
How are cleansing balms better than cleansers for removing makeup?
Makeup removers and facial cleansers are entirely different things and it’s not enough to just use one or the other.
A makeup remover is intended to remove things like foundation, concealer and eyeshadow from the surface of the skin, while cleansers clean the pores, cutting through sweat, sebum, dead skin cells and pollution.
That’s why it’s worth investing in two separate products, but you need to make sure the formulas you’re combining actually work together and suit your skin type.
We recommend checking out Pot of Gold and Ruby Dooby Doo that work amazingly well with Clean as a Whistle.
Is double cleansing really necessary?
Most experts agree that cleansing once in the morning is enough, but a double cleanse is necessary in the evening if you’ve been wearing sunscreen and makeup or even if you’ve just been outside.
You’d be surprised at the amount of dirt and grime that can sit on skin. Just because it’s not necessarily visible doesn’t mean it isn’t there.
Is a makeup removing balm better than wipes?
There’s no denying their speed and convenience, but using baby wipes as makeup remover is not a long-term solution for your skin.
These single use wipes are as unfriendly to the planet as they are to your skin; often containing strong synthetic fragrances and drying chemicals that strip your skin of its natural oils, which may lead to sensitivities, inflammation or breakouts.
The action of using a wipe also rubs and drags across your skin, which at best causes irritation and at worst results in a loss of elasticity and tone.
What happens if I forget to take my makeup off?
When you don’t remove your makeup or do it properly, you are more likely to break out, your lashes can thin, your lips can become dry, and your skin may age faster.
You also run the chances of letting bacteria and particles from your makeup (mascara and eyeliner, especially) seep into your pores and eyes, which can lead to irritation, discomfort, and potential infections.
How do you remove makeup with balm?
To remove makeup with a cleansing balm, apply the balm to dry skin, massaging it in to break down makeup. Add a small amount of water to emulsify, turning the balm milky. Continue massaging, then rinse thoroughly with warm water. Follow with a water-based cleanser for deeper cleaning.
Can a makeup removing balm clog pores?
Makeup removing balms do not clog pores when formulated correctly with non-comedogenic ingredients. They are designed to dissolve makeup and impurities without leaving residue that can block pores. However, it's important to thoroughly rinse off the balm and follow with a cleanser to ensure all residue is removed.
What is the healthiest way to remove makeup?
The healthiest way to remove makeup involves using gentle, non-irritating products suited to your skin type. Oil-based cleansers or balms are effective for dissolving makeup without stripping natural oils. Follow with a gentle, water-based cleanser to remove any residue. Avoid harsh scrubbing and moisturise after cleansing to maintain skin barrier health.
